Mum's laundry hack to get toddler to fold their own clothes blasted as 'lazy parenting' - but not everyone hates it

The best thing about toddlers is they get excited about doing the most mundane things, like helping with chores around the house – if you let them. 

One mum has taken it a step further and shared her hack for getting her young child to help fold their own clothes up using a cardboard folding template.

The video has gained a lot of traction online, and while some people praised it, it's kicked off a huge debate about whether this hack – which has been viewed over 1.7 million times – is good parenting or not.

"MOM HACK: to get your toddler to fold their laundry 🧺👦🏽 Get your little one involved to make it fun," she captioned the video. 

In the clip she uses four pieces of cardboard to create a template for folding clothes, with the instructions of 1, 2, and 3, the steps to follow to fold the item of clothing. 

It takes a few seconds for the toddler to fold up several shirts, proving the hack is so simple. 

It's a cute hack and it works, but it kicked off quite the debate in the comments, with some people comparing this to 'child labour'. 

Others thought it was adorable and a really great way to get a toddler involved in helping and also building some essential life skills. 

"Great to teach kids to count, fold clothes and household chores," commented one person. 

Another replied, "Kids love to do grown-up things. She's getting a sense of accomplishment and joy that comes with helping!"

Others just applauded the idea for being "genius" and a really great way to involve kids in what you're doing. 

But then there were a lot of negative comments, pointing out that making kids do this is basically "child labour" and branding this as "lazy" parenting.

"That's a lazy mother! I understand about teaching your kids about chores but not that young!" replied one person.

Another commented, "This is kinda excessive lmao 🤣 toddlers folding laundry that's mom and dads business let em be a kid." 

One person joked that this was her kid's way of helping pay rent. 

And while not everyone agreed it is right for toddlers, plenty of people commented wanting more details for husbands and partners. 

"Is it morally okay to use this on my boyfriend without telling him it's a trick I saw for kids?" replied one woman. 

Another replied, "Does this work for husbands? Asking for a friend…" while another added, "The irony of me (36 yrs old) actually needing this to fold my damned clothes."
