Matty J opens up about being a dad: 'I cry a lot'

Former reality star, radio presenter, TikTok guru and father-of-two Matty J is 9Honey's newest parenting columnist.

Living in a small two-bedroom Sydney apartment with fiancé Laura Byrne and their two girls Marlie-Mae, 2, and Lola, 8 months, along with their three-legged dog Buster, Matty fully embraces the challenges that come with being a dad.

And he's determined to show the honest side of parenting - mess, tantrums, tears and all.

"Becoming a parent is all-consuming," Matty admits. "It's a bit like running a marathon. Nothing can prepare you for the level of exhaustion you'll feel... or the highs."

He's also very open about how fatherhood has transformed him.

"Being in the delivery suite as your child enters the world, tears were streaming down my face," Matty reveals. "I don't think anything can top that."

While Matty says he was always an 'emotional guy' even before kids, he admits he's become even more emotional since his kids came along.

"I've changed a lot since becoming a dad," Matty reveals. "I'm even more emotional. I cry a hell of a lot more. I don't get a lot of sleep anymore. And I'm a lot less self-indulgent."

Despite the lack of sleep and chaos, Matty says he has also fallen even deeper in love with Laura - and is in awe of her strength.

"Becoming parents has really solidified our relationship," the dad-of-two explains. "And hot tip, my biggest secret to seducing Laura is cleaning the house."

"If I mop the floor, she can't keep her hands off me."
