No list of French-inspired baby names would be complete without Pierre – the most stereotypical of all French names.

It is the English version of Peter, which comes from the word 'petra', meaning 'rock' or 'stone'.

Behind the Name says it was consistently popular in France from the 13th century, before falling out of its Top 100 names in 2017.

But it may be ready for a comeback, with Aussie model and businesswoman Miranda Kerr recently choosing the name Pierre for her third child with tech mogul Evan Spiegel.

"[He is named] after my grandfather, Peter, and he was actually conceived in France," Kerr told 9honey of the reason behind the name choice.

"So that's hence the name, Pierre. It's Peter, but in French."
