School lunch ordering app crashes on Friday morning, leaving thousands of parents scrambling

Popular school management platform Flexischools crashed earlier this morning during its peak usage time.

The platform is Australia's number one canteen ordering, payment and communications app for parents, schools and suppliers. The app currently services approximately 400 schools and 70,00 students across the country.

Normally, parents have until 9.30am to place their child's lunch order via Flexischools so they receive their meal that day.

However, the platform was down due to a "technical" issue this morning, potentially resulting in some hungry kids.

Parents who attempted to use the app this morning were met with a message which reads: "The website is currently unavailable."

It continued: "We apologise for any inconvenience caused. Our technical staff are working to resolve the issue and hope to have it resolved too."

Calls to the app's customer service phone number are met with a message which states: "We are aware of an issue this morning which may be impacting logging in and ordering. Our team are working hard to resolve this and we hope to have an update soon.

UPDATE: As of 10am the website has been back online with the following message: "Status Update: The issue impacting logging in and ordering this morning has now been resolved. Thank you for your patience."

Andrew Terlich, acting CEO of Flexischools, wasn't able to tell 9Honey why the outage happened. He responded to our enquiry: "Unfortunately we experienced an unexpected outage with our ordering platform for 1.5 hours this morning. As soon as we became aware of the issue, our team got to work quickly, to get our platform back up and running.

"We know that during this time, unfortunately, customers were unable to place orders," he continued. "Most of our team are parents too, and we understand that an added complication like this on an already busy school morning is frustrating. We are very sorry for that. Making sure families can rely on our service is of the utmost importance to us."

He ended by saying: "Flexischools is Australian-built and owned technology, and we are incredibly proud of the role we play in helping simplify families lives everyday."
