Why US Today co-host Dylan Dreyer won't let her kids use iPads in the car anymore

Any parent who's done a long car trip with young kids knows that keeping them entertained and occupied is the key to surviving the ride. 

But US Today Show co-host Dylan Dreyer admitted that one incident with her son has put a ban on iPads in the car. 

As the panel chatted about travelling over the Memorial Day weekend, Dreyer explained that she keeps her kids busy in the car by singing, not screens.

"Well, Calvin one time was watching an iPad in the car on a trip to Boston, and then he threw up," she told the panel. 

"Trying to get that out of a car seat is absolutely disgusting, right?

"So, no iPads in the car, we're just not. No reading in the car. We're gonna sing, like good old National Lampoons Vacation sing." 

Dreyer has three boys, Calvin who is seven, Oliver, four and Rusty, two, who she shares with husband Brian Fichera.

The TV personality previously addressed the carsickness incident on Instagram and anyone who has ever had to clean vomit out of a car seat will sympathise with her. 

Alongside a black and white snap of herself cleaning the car seat she questioned why they're not easier to clean.

"Car seats should come with a puke-proof cover of some kind," she wrote. 

"Something easy to clean because inevitably every child will vomit all over every nook and cranny of this thing. It's impossibly disgusting to take apart to clean and painstakingly difficult to put back together."

Plenty of parents in the comments agreed with Dreyer and shared their own methods for dealing with this situation. 

"I have been saying this for years!!! I have had to take the garden hose to it before! I hope your little one is feeling better!" commented one mum.

Another replied, "Literally a hose and spray and wash!! The struggle is real!" 

"Put it in the shower!" another mum wrote.

If you do get vomit through your car seat it is worth checking the manual that it came with to know what you can actually clean it with without compromising the integrity of your seat.

You can take it to a professional cleaner if you are concerned about how to get it back to smelling and looking new.

But if you are going to clean it yourself and take the cover off, my advice is to take photos of it before you do it all, because it'll make it so much easier to have reference photos of where things attach and what bits go where – speaking from experience.
