Mum's genius hack to stop little hands destroying your Christmas tree: 'The excitement will wear off'
A lot of parents are about to experience something very new this festive season, the fact that their kids are mobile and the Christmas tree is about to look very, very appealing.
Last year you had a tiny little baby who sat happily next to the tree in awe looking at the lights, and now you've got a full blown toddler who you know is going to go straight for it.
Thankfully, one mum has shared a very easy tip to hopefully lessen the excitement about all your pretty decorations and joked she's "saving one tree at a time".

"Happy 'leave the tree alone' season to those who celebrate," read the text on a clip of her husband setting up the Christmas tree.
Her hack is simple, you need to set up the tree – just with lights – and leave it like that.
Forget the shiny baubles, the glitzy decorations and just let the tree be there in the room.
"Enjoy it for a few weeks with lights only, then add your ornaments," read text on the video.
"The excitement will wear off and once the ornaments get added there will be less wandering and wondering hands."

The aim is that your child will just get over the tree being a "new" part of the home. Instagram
The idea is that the tree itself is the big new thing, so once that gets old, you can do the rest and it's not going to be as enticing as the whole thing going up at once.
"Because 'Gentle hands' and 'Hands off the tree' really only makes touching the tree more enticing. Weeks or days here…whenever you see the interest die down," she captioned the post.

A lot of mums thanked her for sharing the tip and are going to try it out themselves.
"So what you're saying is that I HAVE to get the tree out early so we can teach the toddler 😂❤️ (I'm def using this to win the argument with my husband)," commented one mum.

Another wrote, "I love this idea! Putting up our tree with a 2 year old this weekend and I'm 100 per cent trying this method! And I feel like it's going to make me feel festive but too 'Christmas-y' too soon."
Some people have had success already with this method. One person commented, "We did the same thing with out toddler, he is not even looking at it anymore."
And while it's a great idea, one mum has not had any luck with it.
"I do this... the excitement does NOT die down!" she commented.
But, if you do want to try something to keep those hands off your tree, it's not a bad idea. The other alternative is to only put decorations where they can't reach, or giving your kids their own tree to decorate.
