Bunnings brings back nostalgic summer buy for under $15

The item that defined all of our summers is back and better than ever at Bunnings Warehouse.

The hardware store has brought back its famed clam shell sandpits after they were all snapped up last summer.

The shells are not exactly the same as the ones we spent our childhoods in, coming in three pastel shades – Skyway, Lilac and Cream.

But those who are a fan of the classic bright blue that would inevitably fade in the sun, Bunnings also stocks those.

They retail for $14.70 for each piece, with many parents excited to see them back in store.

"Perfect, gimme every colour," wrote one.

"Are you bringing these to NZ this time? PLEEEEAAASE" one shopper said from across the pond.

"Spring is nearly here," another said.

One shopper asked, "Will yellow be coming back?"

"I need these for the pups," one shopper said.

While many know that they can be used as both sandpits and pools, some Bunnings fans have found alternate uses for the product.

One mum shared a video of her two daughters enjoying a sensory tray held inside the clamshells.

One held dyed pink rice with a number of toys in them, while another held a milk bath complete with rose petals.

Another mum added water, cornflour, and cut up pool noodles to create a "Fruit Loop" pool party.

One commenter questioned, "How come when I was young we had tonnes of these and they aren't popular and now they're randomly popular with better colours?"

Another used the shell to create a sandpit for their dog, who was seen happily digging.

"My geese will love these," another added.

The frenzy over the clam shells began last summer, with parents running around their states trying to find the elusive items for their kids.

"When I tell you I ran," TikTok content creator Stephania Cass shared at the time.

For those who just can't seem to find the shells in stock at their local store, one user suggested, "You can go to the special order desk and they will get it delivered from another store. You just have to pay when you order and it can take a few weeks."
