'I've fallen back in love with my ex because he's a great co-parent'
I really regret breaking up with my ex-partner David.
We'd been together for five years, then when we had our daughter I went through a lot of pain, grieving for my mother who died suddenly. I was also suffering with post natal depression. So in amongst all of that, I started blaming David for things that weren't his fault.
When our daughter was two, I ended our marriage and he was devastated.
But while I'm still single, he got a new girlfriend almost right away and they seem very happy together. She is always nice to me and my daughter. So now I'm kicking myself for breaking up my marriage, especially now that Dave is such a great co-parent.

So many of my friends bitch about their partners not helping with the kids or just being lazy in the house, expecting the woman to do everything.
Yet I gave up a man who was more than happy to help, both back then and today.

He's always messaging me to see if I want some child-free time and he takes our daughter out, or has her at his house for a couple of days, so I can get on with my work.
Or he will get on my case, reminding me to look after myself. He's always telling me that women work so hard juggling motherhood and work, and that I need to pamper myself.
When the pandemic first broke out, he was the first person in my life to bring me groceries, make sure I was okay, offer to run errands for me.

When I tell my married friends about the things David does for me, they think I am crazy to have ever ended my marriage – and now I agree with them!

I've even become quite jealous of David's girlfriend. She is so darn lucky! He told me that they're trying to start a family and on one hand, I'm happy for them, but on the other hand, I'm green with envy.
That could have been me with my second child and a devoted husband.

I feel like I've fallen back in love with him because he is so nice. I think my reasons for ending the marriage were really dumb.
I talked myself into thinking that I wasn't in love with him anymore but the truth is I was just overcome with feelings of helplessness after my mum died.
My family were shocked when I asked David for a divorce. And now I realise why they were shocked. I feel like an idiot.

I had it so good and now I'm on my own with no hope of finding another man. I just don't think any man will find me attractive anymore and I'm not in the right head space to look for romance at this stage of my life.
So I can do nothing but wish David and his girlfriend well, and I should feel lucky that he is still in my life as the father of my child.
