Bride-to-be's plea for kindness after 'embarrassing' engagement video goes viral

A bride-to-be has been left feeling mortified after discovering her engagement video had gone viral after a witness filmed the special moment and shared it on TikTok.

Linn Ekebom, 28, was filled with joy following her girlfriend Shannon McGee's proposal at Central Park in New York in the US, where they first met one year ago.

McGee, 29, wanted to make the proposal special so organised a surprise flash mob to the song 'Marry You' by Bruno Mars. Ekeborm's answer was a resounding 'yes.'

In the video we seen the dancers executing their carefully-rehearsed moves before McGee pops the question to Ekeborn.

In a video posted to her own TikTok account, Ekeborn explained she was on cloud nine until she arrived home and discovered a video of the special moment had been shared on TikTok with the original poster and commenters alike mocking the proposal.

The video was uploaded along with the caption: "Don't even THINK about proposing to me unless it's a synchronised dance to marry you by Bruno Mars with 6 teenage girls in Central Park."

One TikToker quickly commented: "This is not the way to do it."

Others labelled it "embarrassing."

Ekeborn was horrified, not just because of the negative comments but because she hadn't had a chance to tell her friends and family about her engagement yet.

She explained on TikTok while some of her friends had seen the video, her parents thankfully hadn't.

Commenting on the negativity on TikTok, Ekeborn observed: "The younger generation has started to become the older generation on social media with like no regards to other people's feelings."

She continued: "If you see cute things or fun things or weird things and you want to post about it like okay, go for it. That's what social media is for. But I get upset about the fact that people are so nasty, like with no regard of like, oh, maybe this person who just got engaged is also on social media, and may have seen this the night of her engagement.

"Comment whatever you want the like, please be considerate. There are people reading what you write there are people hearing what you say, be kind. We're all human. Just be kind. It costs you nothing."

Her own video has been met with nothing but positivity.

"The proposal was beautiful," one TikToker commented. "You deserve to be able to savour the moment and tell your engagement story on your own terms and only met with joy."

Another said: "It was a beautiful proposal."

The couple has since thanked their followers for their support saying they had an "amazing" weekend. The pair are focusing on planning their dream wedding.
