Always running late? Your personality type could be to blame

Julia Naughton

We've all got that one friend who is constantly late. (Or perhaps you're the tardy one -- but don't worry, we won't tell!).

No matter what you do -- whether it's moving coffee dates an hour earlier, or repeatedly reminding yourself of the importance of the event, and how you simply CANNOT be late -- nothing ever seems to cut through.

But what if we told you chronic lateness is less to do with time management and more to do with your personality type?

Well, as Dr Karl Kruszelnicki explains, it's not such a crazy idea after all.

"There are four particular personality types that are particularly prone to lateness," Kruszelnicki told TODAY Extra hosts David Campbell and Sonia Kruger on Tuesday.

Unsurprisingly, if you describe yourself as a goal-driven person, or perhaps maybe a little obsessive, it's likely you have zero problem with being on time.

Whereas if you're a bit more relaxed and laid back, Kruszelnicki says you're more likely to fall victim to tardiness.

The good news?

"If you work out what sort of personality you fit into, you can juggle things better," Kruszelnicki says.

Below, the four different personality types and their typical traits:

Type one: The Perfectionist

You know you've got to be in a meeting, but insist on having the dishwasher perfectly stacked. Guilty? You're a Perfectionist!

Type two: The Crisis Maker

You only perform well if there's a lot of stress, and you love an adrenaline rush! Your motto is: "If it wasn't for the last minute, nothing would ever get done."

Type three: The Denialist

Do your friends often describe you as a chiller? Look no further than the Denialist. You tend to think you've got all the time in the world when you're checking out from your hotel, despite only having three minutes.

Type four: The Defier

A time schedule? Who needs that! You're always standing up against the broad authority of existing social constructs, and often, you're late deliberately. Just because.
