Royal aide says Princess Diana didn’t love Dodi Fayed

Theirs is often considered a love story cut tragically short, but a former secretary for Princess Diana has controversially claimed that she never loved Dodi Fayed, the man who was with her on the night of the fateful Paris car crash.

Gibbins’ theory goes against many previous reports about the couple’s relationship, which claim that the two were in a serious relationship and had looked at engagement rings together. Some have even claimed that Diana was pregnant with Dodi’s child when the two were tragically killed in August 1997. 

Gibbins said: “My feeling was that she was determined to build a new her in whatever way.”

In the last month before the crash, the couple had spent time together on Dodi’s yacht, sparking rumours at the time that their relationship was becoming serious. 

Asked if Diana had ever mentioned a wedding, Gibbins said: “Absolutely not. Nor do I believe that for a second.

“She was a pretty complex person. Superficially yes, she enjoyed bobbing around on boats with Dodi Fayed. Who wouldn’t?”
