Frustrated dad's birthday card tirade: 'I don't want to pretend everything is great'
A father has used his daughter's birthday card to express his frustrations over how the woman chooses to live.
"Happy Birthday Christy," he begins, before launching into what can only be described as a tirade.
"I don't want to pretend everything is great for your birthday this year," he writes. "Your life is yours to live but your choices have consequences.

He continues: "At 31, maybe its time to consider trading late night partying and irresponsible friends for something more fulfilling and meaningful," the dad implores.
"I love you, but it sure seems like a good time to learn from your mistakes and make some changes."
He signs off simply with "Dad."

The card has been shared on Reddit's 'There Was An Attempt' thread and received a rousing response.
"Sounds like Christy is making some bad life choices," one commented.
"I think deep down though you may know it's written out of love not malice. Not many people you meet in life will tell you the honest truth, they r the ones who really care," another said.

One Redditer joked: "I'm not mad, I'm just disappointed. - Christy's dad."
Others took Christy's side in the matter.
"Yeah this is a weird thread for sure. People are giving this person's father a lottttttttt of positive assumptions and none to OP," one said.
"I also think the people defending him and assuming Christy needs to get her sh-t together are kinda missing the point. Maybe dad did need to say all this, but man, the birthday card is not the place," another said.

"Well, there's a lot of context missing from this," another countered.
"It could be what you're saying and it could also be he's tried talking to her before and she doesn't listen or get the hint and maybe he's hoping that giving this on her birthday might help drive the point home.
"He's obviously worried about her. sometimes people run out of options and have to resort to drastic things. But all we can do is speculate."
"I can only imagine what kind of scrapes I'd need to get in (at 30!) that would lead my parent to write such a card hahaha I need details," added another.
