Why this pair of Crocs is leaving people baffled

Crocs are a divisive shoe at the best of times but this pair in particular is proving to be even more baffling.

In a YouTube video posted as part of 'The Best Illusions of the Year' contest, we see a pair of the popular shoes paired with a vibrant pair of socks which for some is causing the footwear to appear to be a completely different colour.

We see in the video two images of the shoes with the image on the left appearing to be light pink, and the image on the right seemingly mint green.

"Under normal lighting conditions, all people see the Crocs as pink," creators Pascal Wallisch and Michael Karlovich explain.

Then, when placed under green light, the Crocs appear grey.

All agree the socks must be white, even though they sometimes appear to be pink or green.

It's a confusing illusion and one people can't get enough of.

The creators explain: "However, some people – those that believe the socks are white, even though they appear green – are able to look past appearances and see the Crocs as pink, just like they did under regular light.

"Amazingly, when we make the socks actually white, people agree that the Crocs are grey, illustrating the power of assumptions."
