Coronavirus: Radio host's passionate plea: "I need you to be a good human right now"

As the coronavirus pandemic sweeps the globe, while we recoil in and self-isolate with cooling temperatures, the advent of spring in the northern hemisphere is leaving people restless.

"Spring break", a perceived rite of passage to party for university students is quickly approaching, and with millennials ignoring advice to social-distance and self-isolate, one radio presenter has made a passionate plea.

"I need you to be a good human right now," said KISS-FM Seattle's Carla Marie, in an Instagram post that has since gone viral.

"I'm going through the hardest thing of my life… not being able to be there for my family," the video continues.

The radio host, who lives across the US from her New Jersey based family, is unable to visit her parents, and pushed for people to follow self-isolation practices, regardless of the difficulty.

"How can you help? Stay home. Be human. Compassion is easy. It's all we have right now," Marie said.

Marie's decision to post the heart-breaking Instagram video was prompted by the delay of her mother's open-heart surgery due to the spread of the deadly virus.

Unable to join her family in a time of need, Marie urged people to remain at home, cancel holidays and keep themselves healthy to aid in flattening the curve of the pandemic. 

Marie pinpointed making phone calls to loved ones was the best way to safely connect during this period, "call your mum and your dad because you can do that."

There are currently over 13 800 confirmed cases of coronavirus in the United States, and 211 deaths.
