Clothing retailer slammed for charging more for larger sizes

A UK clothing retailer has been slammed for charging more for larger clothing sizes.

New Look has been accused of imposing a 'fat tax' on plus-size customers, with a shopper named Sarah from Northern Ireland noticing the difference.

Using photos from her New Look app, the shopper noticed the aviator jacket she was after cost £29.99 (AUD $51.26) in so-called 'standard' sizes and £54.99 (AUD $94.00) in the plus-size collection.

That's a mark up of over $40 dollars.

Followers commented they were "outraged" about the fat tax.

In September blogger Emma Millard also pointed out the price differences between New Look's regular and 'curvy' ranges.

"Can you explain the crazy price differences," she wrote on Twitter. "Why should I have to pay £12- £15 (AUD $20.51 - $25.64) more?"

She also complained on Instagram, writing, "Hi @newlookfashion and @newlookcurves now I normally love your clothes and love nothing better than perusing your curve section and selecting some key pieces for the season. However, can you please explain to me the price differences for essentially the same top?"

It was later discovered the price difference in this instance was due to a discount not being applied to the plus-size version due to an internal error.

However it seems the price difference continues to apply to other items.

New Look is yet to comment on the criticism.
