Our Christmas plans are in disarray according to a new survey

Christmas will be a little different this year, according to an exclusive nine.com.au reader poll.

In a survey designed to take the temperature of Aussies ahead of Christmas 2020, the question was asked: "Will your Christmas plans and/or traditions change this year due to COVID-19?"

The majority of respondents to the nine.com.au reader poll said they probably will change their plans this year due to the pandemic.

Forty-two percent said they "probably will" change their Christmas plans/or traditions this year, while 20 per cent "probably won't".

Another 19 percent of respondents said they "definitely will" change their Christmas plans in 2020 and 14 per cent said they don't have Christmas plans or traditions and will wait and see what unfolds.

Just five per cent said they "definitely won't" change their Christmas plans and/or traditions.

It was in the midst of a bush fire crisis that Australians celebrated Christmas 2019. As the smoke began to clear, COVID-19 made itself known around the world, impacting our country's way of life by March.

While lock down earlier in the year managed to largely "flatten the curve", subsequent "second waves" of the virus have led to additional lock down measures in Melbourne and New Zealand. New South Wales remains on standby for further restrictions if cases continue to climb.

The rest of the country and the world is watching closely to see if the virus can be brought under control in time for the festive season, but that seems unlikely with reports of a vaccine not being made available until at least mid-2021.

Add to that travel restrictions that have been put in place between Australian states and territories, not to mention overseas, and plans to travel to visit family for Christmas can't be confirmed either.

We are still living in uncertain times, but if we do get to celebrate Christmas as first planned, it's certain Australians will treasure it more than ever before.
