The great Christmas debate: Is it really the most wonderful time of year?

Ah, the most wonderful time of year or so it's meant to be.

Each year when we flip our calendars over to January 1, it signifies several things. 

The beginning of a new year, the chance to reinvent yourself, another slew of birthday messages in the year to come, and the restart of the Christmas countdown.

Now, obviously, not everyone is thinking of Christmas in January, but there are some fanatics (like myself) who truly do get excited for next Christmas the moment a new year stars.

You see, there is a great Christmas divide in the world. We're all aware of it, we know it's there, but we don't speak on it out of fear.

When it comes to the great Christmas divide, opinions are strong.

This is not some wishy-washy half hearted matter where most people could be convinced either way. No, this is something that has the power to tear families apart.

It's 'Christmas people' versus 'non-Christmas people'.

It's the debate over whether or not Christmas actually is the most wonderful time of the year. 

And while not everyone is brave enough to tackle such a heated debate, our Talking Honey panel took on the challenge. 

"Now, Christmas is supposed to be the most wonderful time of the year, or so the carol goes," says Shelly Horton.

"But let's be honest, for some people, it's less 'deck the halls' and more 'deck your relatives'.

"We've got blown budgets and loneliness amped up to the 11. So, is it time to unplug the Christmas tree lights once and for all?"

Speaking with Georgie Gardner, Richard Wilkins, and 2GB Radio's Ben Fordham, Horton boldly broached the heated topic, and the panel weren't shy to respond.

Opinions were divided on whether Christmas really is that great, and the panel even discussed why an 'Orphan' Christmas is sometimes the best kind.

Fordham even tackled the concept of Christmas pressure taking a toll on women in particular, suggesting men need to be "shamed in" to doing more during the festive season.
