Bridesmaids ditch their bouquets for something much cuter

A US couple have made a statement at their wedding, making a unique yet adorable request to the bridesmaids — they were to carry puppies in lieu of bouquets on their wedding day to raise awareness for shelter animals.

Andee Ondina and her now-wife Tina Krasinksi married in Florida on Monday, choosing to ditch traditional flowers for her bridesmaids. Ondina is the manager at Bayside Pet Resort in Sarasota and works closely with rescue dogs and other animals.

"My bridesmaids will be holding adoptable puppies with wooden flower collars. 'Puppquets' I'm calling them," Ondina told WGNO news.

"We wanted to make sure we brought some awareness to shelter animals. We are so passionate about adopting versus shopping."

After the ceremony, guests were given the option to sign adoption papers and take one of the adorable pups home.

The puppies that starred in the wedding ceremony were five weeks old. Along with their mother, they were pulled from a kill-shelter in Georgia and taken to an animal rescue shelter.

Executive director of the animal shelter Dari Oglesby says more awareness needs to be spread to save the adorable animals from meeting a terrible fate.

"There are so many animals out there being euthanised," says Oglesby.

"What [better] venue other than a wedding to showcase puppies."
