A bride has been slammed for a bold request she made for those who wouldn't be able to attend her upcoming wedding.

She reportedly shared the note on Facebook, asking for feedback.

"So I am sending this to people who did not RSVP (or declined the invite, but this isn't as much for them). Should I word it differently/add anything? It feels pretty empty," she explained in the post.

The bride also shared a copy of what appears to be a lovely wedding invitation.

But it's not an invitation, instead a lovely piece of stationary about wedding gifts.

"You will be missed. We are so sorry you cannot make it. You are receiving this to let you know that your name will not be among those attending ... wedding, this is either because you declined the invitation or you did not RSVP on time," it reads.

"Either way, you will be missed!

"If you still want to send the couple a gift, there is still time!"

She then included details of the website where gifts can be arranged.

The information has all been shared on Reddit's 'Wedding Shaming' thread, with the person posting it explaining it is from a "Facebook group I'm in".

"The comments are tearing her apart," they added.

After receiving criticism for the invite, the bride added to her post: "Upon reading the comments, I feel there are a few relevant details."

The bride explained the wedding is a Lord of the Rings theme, thus the design of the note. She has also claimed she "added the gifts part because I was trying to fill space".

"We have a good number of people who have not RSVPed, and multiple texts have been sent out. I just don't want people showing up expecting a spot."

Reddit users weren't buying that she added the gift mention to fill space.

One Redditor replied: "They could have increased the font size of the message above the gift one, maybe break it into two sentences/paragraphs, and space would not have been an issue. This is just tacky. LOL"

"Yeah, interesting how the ALL CAPS is the gift part," another commented.

"Nice try, but there's no way to make this less tacky," one wrote.

Darcy Allen, General Manager at Easy Weddings, tells 9honey requests like this are very rare.

"Normally, guests who need to decline the wedding invite for various reasons, I have seen commonly still drop off a gift to the couple or the couple's parents' home in lieu of their attendance; however, I have not seen this asked of from the couple's end or an expectation previously," she said.

She thinks "if the gift registry or instructions were included on the original invite that was declined, this is not enough, and it is then up to the guest if they want to provide a gift".

"A card is always a lovely gesture, a gift should be seen as a bonus."
