Everyday Rewards

Everyday Rewards, formerly called Woolworths Rewards, is a popular retail loyalty program because the benefits are so obvious.

These cards can be used at Woolworths and Big W as well as other associated retailers. Each week, you'll find certain products will earn you 'bonus points' and once you have accumulated a certain number, you can redeem them for $10 off your grocery shop at Woolies.

There are other ways to redeem these points by visiting the website and a dedicated app to help you manage them.

Flybuys

Coles' retail loyalty program is called Flybuys and can be used at Coles, Bunnings, Target and other associated retailers.

With Flybuys, you won't automatically be informed of potential discounts at the checkout but you can redeem them for shopping vouchers to several stores, including Coles.

Once again, there is a dedicated app that will help you keep track.

To keep track of all of your memberships, simply download the Stocard app and load them all on. This app will store all your loyalty program information in one convenient place, as well as keep track of any benefits you can redeem.

You often don't need to use a physical loyalty card these days outside of Everyday Rewards and Flybuys; other retailers will simply ask for your email address and pull your details up.

And for some of these retail loyalty programs you can add your family to your account, which means even more points being accumulated by multiple shoppers.

Check your emails regularly

For retail loyalty reward programs that don't have a dedicated app, just check your emails regularly, especially in the lead up to Christmas so you don't miss any special points or discount offers.

What to steer clear of

Data mining

You shouldn't have to offer up too much information to retail loyalty programs – an email and a date of birth is usually enough – and they shouldn't cost you a cent to join. If they ask for payment, give it a miss.

Inadequate rewards

You want to receive regular benefits from your rewards program, at least a few times a year. If you notice you haven't received many benefits from your membership over a 12-month period, you can cancel it.

Read the contract

The ACCC recommends customers read through the contract of their retail loyalty programs to ensure they are up front about what they do and do not offer. If the language is unclear, give it a miss.
