Beauty blogger under fire for tutorial on 'housewife hair'

A New Zealand beauty blogger is copping some flak from her social media followers for a tutorial on what she calls "housewife hair".

Sally Jo posted the video to her YouTube channel titled 'Housewife Hair Tutorial – Attract Your Dream Husband'.

In it, she runs her subscribers through the steps on how to curl hair using a tong and then how to style it.

"It's like with each brush you get a new potential husband, you know what I mean, because your curls are just so bouncy?" Jo says in the clip.

"This is my 'housewife hair' that I always do."

Jo says she was inspired to film the tutorial on her "housewife hair" after "many requests", describing them as "soft, bouncy curls… aka wifey curls".

Most of the comments were positive but not everyone was happy about the video's title.

"Girl you trying to take us back 50 years?" user Elliectrify wrote. "I clicked on this video hoping you were taking the p*** with that title. Sad you're an inspiration to young girls everywhere and your title has two references to being a housewife and doing your hair to attract a man.

"I'm a genuine fan of you and I'm your age. But disappointed with your title. Why not.. 'Hair tutorial-Attract your self-esteem' .. something .."

While Mariana Nolasco commented, "What the hell is that video title? Do your hair certain way to please men and attract a husband? Great that you're teaching your young audience this."

But Jo was quick to point out that the title of the video, and references to getting a husband as a result, were tongue in cheek.

"Hey guys just want to point out that the title is a joke, I forget not everyone is as sarcastic as me," Jo wrote in response to the criticism.

"My subbies /followers from Instagram have had a running joke for a while now about how I do 'housewife hair', I definitely didn't mean to offend anyone!"
