Meagan lost her job as a flight attendant and made $10,000 by decluttering her wardrobe

When Meagan was stood down from her job as a flight attendant at the beginning of COVID-19, she was lost.

The Australian mum had no idea in February 2020 it would be the last time she'd work on a plane, leaving her without an income or a job to go to every morning.

After a few weeks, Meagan found a job at a supermarket — but she decided it just wasn't enough.

"I just didn't see it coming, it didn't cross my mind that I would never go back to work or that would be the last time I'd set foot on an aircraft as a flight attendant," Meagan tells 9Honey.

"I was only out of a job for about three weeks, so I was lucky in that respect, but it was absolutely daunting."

After stepping down as a Qantas flight attendant, Maegan began looking at ways to supplement her income.

With children to feed, she knew it was important to have a stable cash flow for her family.

It all started with the urge to clean out her wardrobe.

"I'd always been selling pre-loved items on and off for years, but then I started decluttering and looking at stuff I could sell online," Meagan says.

"With that income not coming in anymore, I had to make do with what I had."

Meagan made an account on Poshmark, an online fashion marketplace, when the site became available in Australia.

She immediately put a pair of converse shoes up for sale and was amazed at the response.

"Within about six weeks I'd made a sale and it all started rolling from there," Meagan says.

"Then I pretty much started having daily sales and it became clear Poshmark and myself were a good match."

Soon, Meagan was reselling items she found in her wardrobe and around the house, including pre-loved vintage clothes and décor.

Within just a year of advertising her items through the app, she had made an incredible $10,000 in profit.

Meagan says she is stunned at how her simple decluttering turned into a profitable side-hustle.

"I just started selling things I would have otherwise gotten rid of. If it's good enough to sell, I'll list it," Meagan explains.

"I had so many high-quality items that had more life in it, and a few of my daughter's clothes as well. The possibilities are endless."

After a little under two years, Meagan is now a 'Poshmark ambassador' and has nearly 500,000 followers on the popular app.

She regularly makes around $250 per week selling her old items and has transformed her side-hustle into a full-blown business.

Now, Meagan has branched out to selling more than just clothes and has a particular interest in thrifting vintage goods.

"It's all about investing the time and putting into place a plan, like any business," Meagan says of her surprise success as a Poshmark reseller.

"Once you start seeing the dollar signs and you get the motivation, it just goes from there."
