Nassar victim Alexandra Raisman poses for empowering Sports Illustrated photoshoot

One of Larry Nassar’s victims has posed naked with messages of defiance, including the word “survivor”, written on her body.
 
Former gymnast Alexandra ‘Aly’ Raisman was one of nearly 160 women who shared their experience of sexual abuse at the hands of the former USA Gymnastics doctor during his trial last month.
 
Nassar, 54, will spend the rest of his life in prison for molesting young athletes at an elite Michigan training centre.

Raisman, 23, has been photographed nude for the 2018 Sports IllustratedSports Illustrated with words painted onto her skin.
 
The messages include “Women do not have to be modest to be respected”, “Trust yourself” and “Every voice matters”.
 
Speaking to the magazine, the Olympic gold medallist explained she wanted to inspire others to use their voices.

"I encourage anyone out there to remember that you deserve to feel safe, everyone has a story, and everyone deserves to be heard.

“I would like to remind everyone that being a survivor is nothing to be ashamed of, and going through a hard time does not define you."

Sharing one of the photos on Instagram, Raisman urged women to celebrate their bodies and express themselves in a way that makes them happy.

“Women can be intelligent, fierce, sexy, powerful, strong, advocate for change while wearing what makes them feel best,” she writes.

“The time where women are taught to be ashamed of their bodies is OVER. 

“The female body is beautiful and we should all be proud of who we are, inside and out.”

"You took advantage of our passions and our dreams … you have not taken gymnastics away from me.

Responding to the victims who delivered statements, Nassar said, "The visions of your testimonies will forever be present in my thoughts."
