Aimee Connor is an Aussie nurse-turned-TikTok star whose journey into motherhood has long been an exercise in creativity.

The content creator, who posts under the handle @aims.lc, has amassed one million followers on social media. However, an unconventional approach to her job has catapulted her career.

Faced with kids who are, as she puts it, "not highly food-motivated," Connor increasingly found uneaten toast crusts and untouched dinners ending up in the bin.

"There's only so many Cheerios and pieces of toast and bits and pieces that I can eat," she tells 9honey.

"I just got sick of wasting food."

This prompted Connor to begin transforming her children's leftovers into everything from muffins to granola.

The mother of four made the career-changing decision to begin recording herself repurposing the scraps into something new

"It's not groundbreaking money that I'm saving or anything like that; it's peace of mind that I'm not just throwing anything out."

Connor's creative flair was quickly noticed by fans. Her TikTok account, where she has spent years recording snippets of her life, started gaining even more traction.

The repurposing videos, part of the series 'We don't waste anything,' showed viewers how to transform meals, including a standout creation in which she turned pancake batter into granola.

So, what is the key to Connor's meal-repurposing talents? Simplicity.

"Just start really small, really basic," she advised.

"If you're finding you're cutting crusts off your toast and they just pile up, have, like, a little box where you can put them in. And then at the end of the day you can make croutons for your salad or something like that."

Connor never set out to become a social media star; she was working as a nurse when her authentic posts began striking a chord with viewers.

She says her content evolved from trendy lip-syncing videos during COVID lockdowns to the "messy, real-life" clips she shares today.

"It was all very aesthetic and, you know, face filters and all sorts, and now everyone's sort of pared it back to just real authentic content, which I think is super important too," she says.

For Connor, finding herself in the midst of social media fame isn't all about food waste; it's also about connection.

In a matter of years, Connor has created a heartwarming community of like-minded mums who have found comfort in her relatable and refreshingly honest content.

"I just remember, especially with my eldest [daughter]'s autism diagnosis, just this sense of feeling so alone," she says.

"Sharing that side of my journey and just how she's grown and how we've evolved… [has been] a really nice thing about my journey as well."

Even as her follower count continues to tick upward, Connor remains grounded, mindfully noting the fleeting nature of social media stardom.

Being recognised by fans in public has been "surreal" for the mum of four. @aims.lc via Instagram

"It's a very surreal experience for me to walk out of the house and for people to actually know who I am, and it definitely is not something that I anticipated for myself, ever," she says.

"I'm very wary of how quickly it could disappear as well, and so that's why I've always kept my nursing career, and I never want to lose my registration, just because I know it's quite fickle.
