Adelaide family grieving baby son who died in his sleep

An Adelaide family is grieving the loss of their baby son, who died unexpectedly while sleeping next to his father.

Four-month-old Bronlee is believed to have passed away from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), which is the sudden, unexpected and unexplained death of an apparently well baby. 

Bronlee was sleeping next to his father, Jayden Ward, on Friday night while his mother Dee-Jayee, was in hospital.

Jayden woke to find his lifeless son's body, realising his chest was not moving.

"I don't think it quite clicked at that point," Jayden told the Daily Mail. "But I then felt his forehead and it was cold. I picked him up and he wasn't responding - I screamed 'bubba' three times."

He called paramedics who, over the phone, told him how to perform CPR on Bronlee. But tragically the baby could not be saved.

Dee-Jayee was told the horrific news when Jayden and her mother came to see her soon after.

"I just walked into the room and saw my mum and Jayden crying and my first thought was 'where's Bronlee, what's wrong?' But I still didn't think he was gone," Dee-Jayee said.

"But when they told me the words 'I'm sorry' I just knew. I dropped to the floor and kept saying 'no, no, no' repeatedly."

9Honey spoke to Dee-Jayee, who remains in hospital, too traumatised to say anything further.

She and Jayden are now hoping to raise awareness of SIDS so other families don't experience the heartache they're going through.

Each year, around 3200 Australian families experience the sudden and unexpected death of a baby of child, according to charity Red Nose.

Friends of Dee-Jayee and Jayden have set up a crowd funding page online to help cover funeral costs.
