Now this is a story.

Texas woman Nguhi Muturi, who goes by the Twitter handle of @ngvhi, has shared her amazing reunion tale after losing her black cat Panther five years ago.

She took to Twitter to explain how she came to be petting her long lost friend, who turned out to have been much closer than she ever imagined.

It’s an absolute epic yarn, clocking up hundreds of thousands of likes, being turned into a Twitter Moment and appearing on viral news sites like The Daily Mail.

As it turns out, Panther ended up at a shelter about 24km out of Dallas, where Muturi lives.

Just a few days because he was set to be euthanised, he was adopted by a woman and renamed Charlie.

But that’s not the end of it:

That’s right, next door.

Apparently, Muturi never noticed her little mate because her neighbours kept him as an indoor cat.

By this time, she thought Panther/Charlie would never return.

Meanwhile, these neighbours had also bought a Husky called Trotsky, who turned out to be a little too much for them to handle.

So they asked Muturi to help take care of him, before she eventually adopted the dog as her own.

Over the weekend, Panther/Charlie got out of his new home and ventured to Muturi’s place next door.

He went up to her father, purring and rubbing against his legs.

When the cat went inside, he headed straight for his favourite spot.

When the neighbours called to ask if Muturi’s family had see their missing cat, it all became clear.

“This is why when Trotsky saw Panther at our house today he didn’t go crazy or bark,” Muturi said on Twitter.

“HE ALREADY KNEW HIM.

“THEY’D LIVED TOGETHER BEFORE.”

Everyone was blown away, especially people following along on Twitter:

Eventually, it was decided that Panther/Charlie would stay at the neighbour’s house, but Muturi is allowed to visit him whenever she likes.

Muturi rounded out her Twitter epic by posting the above video of her beloved cat.

“You know how you lose a person or pet and you wish you had one more day with them just to let them know how much you love them and how much they mean to you,” she said.

“I just had that day with Panther.

“I never would have guessed that 5 years later I’d get to kiss his little head again.”
