Bad-arse hen sits on snake trying to rob eggs from her nest

Think chickens are docile, timid birds?

Think again.

We want you to take a look at this photo of a hen from Texas, US sitting on a damn snake.

In our minds, this hen saw this slithery sucker creeping into her nest and was all “yeah I don’t bloody think so, mate” and just sat on it.

It comes to us via what sounds like the loosest Facebook group in the world: What snake is this? Southeast Texas.

The photos were posted by Sara Allison late last week.

“Look at this dummy,” she said.

“Too stubborn to get up when a rat snake wants a meal.

“I don't wanna hurt it since it's just had a meal or have chickens attack it after they're shut in with it.”

Of course, with a post as hectic as that, it’s no surprise it went viral, making its way out of the confines of a southeast Texas Facebook group via a yarn from Fernando Alfonso II at WESH 2 News.

As we learned from the story, the hen’s name was Bernadette and the snake had been hanging around the coop for four years.

The slithery intruder has been known to snag a few eggs, but had never turned on the chickens.

“The snake is our buddy and we love when we get the chance to see it,” Allison said.

She told WESH 2 News Bernadette was unharmed by the snake, who eventually took the hint and slithered off.
