Townsville family’s unexpected guest might give you a phobia of drains

This is why they make covers for bathroom drains.

We mean, obviously drain covers are there to keep sadistic clown demons from crawling out, but there is another reason.

Snakes.

We’ve just seen video of a snake slithering around in the pipes of a house in Townsville, Queensland and now we’re more paranoid of drains than ever.

Sure, this little fella doesn’t seem to be bothering anyone, but we’re not huge fans of the idea of a snake popping its head up to say hello while we’re soaking in the tub.

No thanks.

And while you might think this is a one-off, it definitely is a thing.

A few weeks ago we spoke to David Walton from Cairns Snake Removals about a python popping up in a toilet.

Check out these pictures, which went nuts when he posted them to Facebook.

“We see a spike in snakes found in toilets, laundries and bathrooms around this time,” Walton told 9Pickle in September.

“We believe they’re coming in because they can smell the water.”

Yeah, snakes really do slither around in pipes, just like that basilisk from Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

Fantastic news.

So what can you do about this?

There’s a bit of advice from Walton, which was specific to a snake-in-the-dunny situation but could be applied to many scenarios.

“Have a look before you sit down,” Walton says.
