Snake catcher makes daring dive for massive of a goanna scabbing food from holidaymakers

Now this is a big lizard.

Stuart McKenzie, the bloke behind The Snake Catcher 24/7 - Sunshine Coast Facebook page, is usually called out to houses to pick up carpet pythons.

But the other day he had a call out for something with a few more legs – and claws – than he regularly sees.

A whopper of a goanna was hanging out at a holiday park in Diddillibah and started getting a little too demanding of guests.

And because he’s no miniature skink, it was decided that this fella needed to go.

So McKenzie was called in to give him his marching orders.

But the huge lace monitor didn’t make it easy for him.

“He made me look a bit slow on the slippery grass,” McKenzie said.

“I only just got him.”

McKenzie had to dive on him like he was defending a try line, but eventually managed to catch him.

“He was being fed by some of the people holidaying in the villas and started adventuring up onto people’s balconies looking for more food,” McKenzie said on Facebook.

“Lace monitors are known for hanging around parks and barbecue areas in search of an easy feed.

“Best not to feed wildlife.”

But don’t worry, this big fella is going to be fine, being later relocated to a “nice patch of bushland”.
