Exclusive: The Portable Door stars Sam Neill and Patrick Gibson detail their wild night out on the Gold Coast as they prepared for filming
Sam Neill has detailed the wild night out he took Irish actor Patrick Gibson on to give him a "proper Aussie experience" ahead of filming the Stan Original Film The Portable Door
In an interview with 9Entertainment, the legendary Kiwi actor, 75, said he took the 27-year-old out on the Gold Coast with some of their co-stars to see a tribute band – and according to Patrick, it was a night to remember.

"I thought he should have a proper Australian experience so when we first met I said, 'We're going out tonight'," Sam laughed. You can see what he said in the video above.
"We all went out to the RSL at Surfers Paradise and saw a Queen cover band!"
Patrick added: "I just got a text being like, 'Sam Neill here, hi, can't wait to meet you all – here's the plan.' I was like... 'What?' It did not disappoint!"

The new movie, which is available to watch now only on Stan, follows a young Paul Carpenter (Gibson) and his colleague Sophie Pettingel (Sophie Wilde), who both intern at quite a whimsical London firm called J.W. Wells & Co.
Their job is to create and manage coincidences, and as the film progresses the pair become steadily aware that their employers are anything but conventional.

The movie also follows charismatic villains Humphrey Wells (Christoph Waltz), the CEO of the company, and middle manager Dennis Tanner (Neill), who are disrupting the world of magic by bringing modern corporate strategy to ancient magical practices.

Speaking about playing the somewhat misfit character of Paul, Patrick said: "It was so much fun to play someone like that who is... maybe the most grounded in reality out of everyone?
"Just getting to watch these guys in this fantastical world was such a joy."
Sam then hilariously questioned his co-star: "The slightly hapless nature to the character, that was a stretch?" to which he responded: "The kind of bumbling eejit kind of element really took some work, some studied work for me!"
Patrick said it was "a lot of fun" working alongside Sam, recalling: "Sam's character is so full of mischief, and it was sometimes hard to keep a straight face. Very unpredictable!"
While Sam said: "The good thing about Patrick is, you're pretty clever. I'm not going to say it again, it's the last nice thing I say to you!"
The Portable Door is available to watch from April 7, the same day as the UK and US, and only on Stan. Stan
