RPA, the show that ignited Australia's love of observational documentaries, is back for a brand new season. For 17 years, it gave viewers around the country an access-all-areas pass to the inner workings of the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney.

And now, in it's new iteration narrated by Rodger Corser, the show follows patients who bravely and generously share their stories, as well as the outstanding surgeons and physicians who not only put broken bodies back together, but in many cases have to break the news to these patients that their prognosis isn't good.

These real-life moments are captured in all their unfiltered emotional rawness.

This type of rare cancer is often described by doctors as "a silent killer" since it's often only found during surgery.

The diagnosis has put all baby plans on hold. Amy knows she has to be strong for her daughter Rose.

Amy's visit to the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital starts early for both her and her family. After six months of planning, she's meeting with colorectal surgeon Dr Nabila Ansari.

The doctor advises that surgery will involve removing both ovaries and possibly her bowel.

One fifth of patients who undergo this surgery have a major issue. The risks are high for Amy.

Dr Nabila begins the intimate surgery. So far there have been no unwanted surprises, but the team isn't finished already.

After seven hours, Dr Nabila is confident they have removed the cancer from Amy's body. Her partner Mark is outside waiting as the doctors do 'hot' chemotherapy to remove any cancers that are not visible to the eye.

The surgery may be over, but Amy has some dangerous days ahead in the ICU.

A few days later, Amy is finally back on the mend and her daughter Rose arrives at the RPA to see her. It's finally time for her to go home.
