During his time hosting Midday, Ray Martin had many Hollywood heavyweights on the show, however, perhaps no one that lived up to their superstar status more than Tom Jones.
Martin recalls one incident that even 30 years on has stayed with him.

"He had a bodyguard with him and in a commercial break he walked across and said, 'Do you want a drink?' And he said, 'Yeah, that'd be fine.' And the guy went to get a bottle of Perrier water. He then tasted it and said, 'Yeah, that's fine, Tom,' and gave it to Tom, like a taste tester," laughs the journalist. "I thought he was having a lend of me. I'd never seen that in my life. That's what real stars do."
Despite his worldwide fame, Martin says the Grammy Award winner was completely down to earth.

"He was very much the boy from Wales and very easy to get on with. He was terrific, no airs and graces, he very easy to deal with."
And even though the singing legend was in his late 60s when the journalist last had him on the show, he says he was still very much a ladies' man. "That was very much part of who he was, he was always telling the stories about the women throwing their underwear at him!"
