Rare white reindeer spotted in Norway

A photographer has captured shots of a rare white reindeer while hiking with friends in Norway.

The friendly beast wasn’t shy about having its photo taken, posing for Mads Nordsveen and his friends in the snow-covered mountains in Oslo.

The 24-year-old travel photographer often goes exploring looking for unique photo opportunities and was surprised at how relaxed the baby reindeer was being around the hikers.

“He came very close to me and we looked at each other straight in the eyes,” Mr Nordsveen told Ladbible.

“When he saw that I was calm and friendly, it was almost as if he posed for the camera.”

The youngster played with Mr Nordsveen and his friends for a bit before heading back to its mum who was waiting at the edge of the woods.

While darker reindeer are often associated with Christmas (Think Rudolph and the rest of Santa’s crew), the rare white reindeer’s coat is due to a genetic mutation that strips pigment from its fur.

In some Scandinavian traditions, sighting a white reindeer is a sign of good luck.
