Poor phrasing on park bench memorial is tragically hilarious

Is there a nicer gesture than creating a memorial for a loved one in a way that the wider public can benefit?

And is there anything more tragic than that memorial being phrased so poorly that it sounds incredibly depressing?

A bronze plaque on a park bench in Los Angeles paid tribute to Nicole Campbell, who died suddenly at the age of 35 in August last year.

"In loving memory of Nicole Campbell, who never saw a dog and didn't smile," the plaque reads.

Now, you can deduce that Nicole smiled every time she saw a dog.

But it reads like she never saw a dog, and never smiled.

The phrasing was noted by Jen D'Angelo, whose tweet went bonkers on Monday.

She followed up with this:

It's a pretty funny mix-up, but thankfully her friend Christina Lala was able to clarify.

"I woke up to find Nicole as Twitter trending topic," she wrote.

"Nicole always smiled when she saw a dog and she also has a sense of humour so she deserves going viral."

Aw bless. Maybe this plaque isn't so tragic after all.
