Newborn baby orangutan melts hearts hiccupping after its caesarean birth
We don’t care how tough you are, you’re going to turn into a puddle of mush after seeing this video.
Even if you have a barbed-wire tattoo or wear stilettos with pointed screwdrivers, no one is hardcore enough not to be moved by this clip.
It’s footage of newborn orangutan Lily with a case of the hiccups.
Lily is only a few weeks old and lives at the Sedgewick County Zoo, in Wichita, in the US state of Kansas.
The sweet little angel was born via a caesarean section on September 7 after her mother, Daisy, had some trouble giving birth.
“Everything was progressing normally... until it wasn’t,” a zoo spokesperson wrote in a post on the Sedgewick County Zoo Facebook page.
“Contractions had stopped and zoo staff began to notice too much blood.

“Daisy had experienced a placental abruption and zoo staff called OB-GYNs Laura Whisler and Janna Chibry to help.
“There were a couple of very scary hours when we weren’t sure if either Daisy or her baby would survive.
“The emergency C-section saved both of their lives.”

But while it was a worrying situation, the outcome has been a happy one.
Over the weekend the zoo posted more photos of baby Lily looking happy and healthy.

“Two-and-a-half weeks later, both Daisy and Lily are doing very well,” a zoo spokesperson said.
“Daisy is still healing and keepers are caring for Lily until Daisy is physically ready to take over.
“But Daisy’s history tells us that we may have a few more hurdles to jump over before we have a successful reunion.
“[They] are doing incredibly well given the unique situation they went through.”
