People scramble to pick up storm-tossed fish

A massive storm in Malta has locals picking dinner up off the streets.

Gale-force winds sent seawater spraying across coastal roads on the Mediterranean island, along with helpless fish.

One video showed people gathering the fish up that had been washed ashore at Xemxija.

The winds have also damaged trees, walls and power lines, but no injuries have so far been reported, the Times of Malta claimed.

The storm has been described as a danger to human life. AAP

The storm has been labelled a "high threat to life and property" by Malta's Civil Protection Department.

But it seems that the prospect of saving a few bucks on seafood is stronger than the danger.
