McLeod's Daughters creator celebrates show's 21st birthday with touching statement

In August 2001, Australian television changed forever when the iconic series, McLeod's Daughters premiered on Channel 9.

The series, based on a 1996 telemovie, ran for eight seasons and 224 episodes, all of which are available for streaming (for free) on 9Now.

To mark the series' 21st birthday, series creator Posie Graeme-Evans took to Instagram to share a photo of series stars Lisa Chappell, who played Claire McLeod, and Bridie Carter, who played Tess Silverman McLeod.

"Tonight, in Australia, 21 years ago, McLeod's Daughters went to air on the Nine Network for the first time. And here they are. So touching to see Bridie and Lisa in this open, heartfelt shot," Graeme-Evans wrote.

Graeme-Evans used the post to thank all the cast and crew of McLeod's Daughters as well as the legion of fans around the world.

McLeod's Daughters success far exceeds the eight seasons the show was on the air. Still to this day, fans rewatch the show, with new fans discovering the series on streaming services all around the world.

The continued love of McLeod's has urged Graeme-Evans to continue the story in the form of an upcoming movie titled The McLeod's of Drover's Run.

"We've signed a multiple year deal with new Sydney studio, Dreamchaser And guess what's obsessing us all? Yup. The McLeods of Drover's Run," continued Graeme-Evans.

"I've been silent for a couple of months – I know, I know – BUT I hate getting everyone's hopes up before I have real news. Now? We'll, let's see. And, I'm off location hunting, that I will say. Lots more to share when the time is right."

No doubt this small, [but huge!] update is a relief for fans. Since Graeme-Evans first announcement of the McLeod's movie, details have been sparse.

It is not yet known whether the film will pick up exactly where the series ended more than 10 years ago, or which characters are involved.

Graeme-Evans post was quickly responded to by star Bridie Carter, commenting: "Love this photo – love the Sis I got on screen and off. With baited breath we wait Posie….. xxxxx"
