Watch: Terrifying moment 'ballistic' crocodile thrashes at Matt Wright on Wild Territory

But as the outback wrangler knows only too well, sometimes things don't quite go to plan when trying to capture and relocate an almighty crocodile in the wild.

In a recent episode – which you can watch a clip of above – Matt came face-to-face with a "young, angry croc" who didn't take well to being disturbed.

After spotting the 13-foot crocodile in a floating trap, Matt attempted to calmly tie a rope around it's jaw to safely get it out.

But the croc was having none of it, thrashing and snapping its teeth while the outback wrangler stood on the cage.

"That croc's just gone ballistic there!" Matt exclaimed, before calling for back-up.

"To be honest, I'm a little wary of this croc," he told the camera.

"He's not a very big croc, but I know from experience... the smaller they are, the faster they are and the more aggressive they are."

He went on to say that a male crocodile in its adolescent stage is "probably the most dangerous crocodile", as they're "fast, stealthy and not educated".

Soon, Matt was joined by fellow wrangler Jock as the pair tried to retrieve the crocodile together – but things went from bad to worse.

Despite their best efforts, the crocodile became more and more angry and thrashed multiple times in the cage.

There was only one step to take – to open the cage, and hope that by placing a rope each around its jaw that they could control it on the outside.

When it left the trap, the crocodile wasn't happy. 9Now

"That's exactly what we don't want to happen!" Matt said after his rope became loose, leaving Jock as the only one in control of the mammoth animal.

But the croc wasn't going down without a fight, and continued to growl and thrash manically at the wranglers in an attempt to escape.

"Woah, woah, woah!" Matt was soon heard shouting, as the two men frantically tried to get the young croc under control.
