Kylie Minogue stuns MCG with huge AFL grand final show packed with Aussie stars

Kylie Minogue has descended on the MCG, bringing out some of Australia’s biggest stars for a mammoth AFL grand final performance.

The Melbourne icon opened with Love at First Sight, emerging among metallic blue, alien-like dancers in a fringed skirt as the stadium erupted.

It was an immediate hit with the crowd, but Minogue barely gave them time to settle before charging into Spinning Around and swapping into a black mini dress emblazoned with “2026” in gold.

Fishnet tights, sparkling Tiffany jewels, killer boots and a wall of dancers completed the look as the field began to resemble a giant concert stage.

Acclaimed First Nations musician William Barton joined Minogue for Confide in Me with his acoustic guitar.

She wore a gold jacket for the number as pyrotechnics lit up the surrounding stage.

G Flip was next to join Minogue, returning to the field after already kicking off the pre-game entertainment with a two-song set.

The St Kilda-born singer and multi-instrumentalist had opened with The Worst Person Alive before later linking up with Minogue during the headline act.

The Inspired Unemployed also popped up, as performers fanned across the ground.

She then pulled out The Loco-Motion, giving the crowd one of the easiest singalong moments of the afternoon.

For Can’t Get You Out of My Head, Minogue appeared high above the MCG above a giant orange football, dressed in a glittering white gown, fishnets and sleek black Versace sunglasses.

The 20-minute set played out in front of about 100,000 fans and marked a huge hometown moment for the singer.

Ahead of the performance, Minogue made it clear the occasion meant something different to her.

“They’re getting a show, they’re getting a Melbourne girl performing in her hometown…I’m in awe and wonder of this moment. It’s a celebration for all of us,” Minogue said.

She had also spoken earlier in the week about why she finally agreed to headline the AFL grand final after years of interest from the league.

“It’s led me back to centre stage at home in the most iconic venue for the most iconic game, an Australian game,” she said this week.

“There’s just so much about this moment for me that’s hard for me to grasp.

“I’m kind of in awe and wonder myself at this moment.”

The MCG is not unfamiliar territory for Minogue.

She previously performed there in 1998 during Mushroom Records’ 25th birthday celebrations, playing a roughly 20-minute set in front of about 55,000 people.

Saturday’s crowd was almost double that.

The appearance also came after another massive period on the road for Minogue, whose Tension tour ran for 66 dates around the world last year.

The tour drew about 576,000 fans and grossed $US78.4 million, around $110 million.
