John Oliver fires shots at Bob Katter on This Week Tonight

Well great, John Oliver has discovered Bob Katter.

This is the bloke who informed the world about our mate Barnaby Joyce during his infamous spat with Johnny Depp over his dogs.

The jaunty English comedian shone a spotlight on the recent s---show that is Aussie politics on his program, Last Week Tonight, discussing Katter’s Australia Party senator Fraser Anning’s infamous speech.

You might remember it – it was the one where Anning suggest a popular vote was a “final solution” to what he called an “immigration problem”.

The Queensland senator had stepped in to replace One Nation’s Malcolm Roberts, but has since deflected to Katter’s camp.

He used his maiden speech to argue that Muslim migrants should be denied entry to Australia.

The speech drew sharp criticism from across the political spectrum, particularly for his use of the phrase “final solution”, which was used by Adolf Hitler to described the extermination of Jews in Nazi Germany.

We mean, Katter backed him, but the majority of pollies condemned Anning.

And now the Gladstone grazier’s words have gone global, thanks to a Last Week Tonight segment, which aired in the US on Sunday night, or our Monday morning.

Oliver lambasted Anning for his use of the phrase “final solution”.

“That is just not a phrase you want to throw around for obvious reasons,” he said.

“It’s the same reason that we don’t babies Adolf any more or have tiny moustaches or call yoga retreats concentration camps.”

Oliver didn’t hold back in his monologue, calling Katter racist, homophobic and “a truly unpleasant human being”.

The segment featured snippets of Anning’s speech and, of course, some of Katter’s… finer moments.

Yep, that “I ain't spending any time on it” video made the cut.

We mean, we can’t blame him because it’s cracking video, but it does make you cringe just a little.
