Guilty golden retriever refuses to address its overeating problem

We've all been this golden retriever at some point in our lives.

This golden-haired pooch may have had a little too much cake, and deals with the issue by refusing to acknowledge its destructive behaviour.

When confronted by a very unhappy owner, the woofer turns its back to her and the problem at hand.

It's as if, by avoiding eye contact, the dog expects the make the issue  – and the calories – disappear.

And we're not going to criticise this avoidance strategy.

After having demolished waaay more cake than most dieticians would recommend for a week in a single sitting, we've tried the same trick.

But instead of ignoring a grumpy owner, we've tried turning our figurative backs to the feeble voice of reason in our head.

When you're a cute, shaggy dog this kind of avoidance results in you winning hearts of the internet, but as a full-grown adult it's significantly less adorable.
