Fishmonger ‘shut down’ after allegedly using googly eyes to make fish look fresher

A fish shop has been shut down after its owners were caught using googly eyes to make their stock look fresher.

Yep, we know, this sounds hilarious… too hilarious to be real, yeah?

But that’s the yarn going around after a tweet from the Kuwait Bayan Newspaper blew the heck up over the weekend.

The tweet says Kuwait’s Department of Commerce had shut down the shop, apparently after an attempt to use the novelty eyes to mislead customers.

There’s very little information about this apparent shutdown, but when the photos are as funny as this, you don’t need much else:

We found out about this via economist Mohamed El Dahshan, whose tweet chalked up more than 100,000 likes in just one day.

It was made into a Twitter Moment, which only spread the LOLs further.

A day later, other fish shops in Kuwait have been getting in on the joke, posting ads about selling “fish without cosmetics” after the photos went viral:
