Get Nicked: Why Prince Philip can do whatever he likes

A week after Prince Philip was involved in a serious crash on a British road, the question is being asked: should the Duke of Edinburgh give up his licence?

Sure, he's 97, but his also famously stubborn. Which means Get Nicked seriously doubts he will do so willingly.

Especially since his beloved wife, Her Majesty the Queen, has the power to pardon anybody she chooses.

And we doubt she's going to let her husband face the courts for reckless driving.

If Get Nicked were married to the Queen, we would go on the ultimate crime spree.

But we figure that ship sailed long ago.

Atomic clock

The Bulletin of Atomic Scientists have kept their Doomsday clock set at two minutes to midnight.

That's still the worst it has been since 1953, which means this group of Nobel laureates believe the world is at the same risk of destruction now as it was during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

"The fact that the Doomsday Clock's hands did not change is bad news," said the Bulletin's chair Robert Rosner.

Well, it sure sounds bad.

Especially since the Bulletin is based in the Northern Hemisphere, and in a few months the clocks up north jump forward an hour.

Discoverer discovered

The long-lost body of the man who first circumnavigated Australia has been found buried underneath a London train station.

The location of Matthew Flinders' body has been a mystery for hundreds of years, but it has been excavated during a massive infrastructure project involving Euston Station.

Euston is incidentally the only property in Monopoly that nobody has been excited to buy.

It's a great discovery for archaeologists and historians, but you just know there's someone in construction management who isn't pleased.

It's hard to be excited about an archaeological breakthrough when you know it's going to push your project back months.

Fair dinkum

Novak Djokovic has charmed the crowd at the Australian Open quarter-final with some local slang.

The audience was delighted to hear him call the interviewer "mate" and say "fair dinkum".

"Fair dinkum" is a phrase that Australians only ever use to flummox tourists.

Not that the crowd minded at all.

Though Get Nicked was not particularly delighted. Anybody impressed with hearing Aussie slang said in a Serbian accent has never been to Wollongong.
