Galapagos tortoise can’t get its mouth around tasty pumpkin

Don’t you just hate it when you’re trying to crack open a pumpkin but it’s too big to fit the hard bony edges of your mouth around?

The worst, right? Okay, so admittedly the dilemma faced by these Galapagos tortoises isn’t so relatable to humans.

The tortoises were given the tasty pumpkin to celebrate both a) Halloween and b) the recent 100th anniversary of their home, the San Diego Zoo, which marked its centenary on October 2.

Several of the zoo’s elder Galapagos tortoises are older than 100, so they probably wouldn’t be that impressed by the milestone.

Despite the troubled they faced cracking into the pumpkin, the tortoises did eventually get to enjoy their feast… and there’s something bizarrely mesmerising about watching them munch on it.
