This fish trapped inside a jellyfish is both beautiful and depressing

Further proof that life under the sea is both silently beautiful and unrelentingly dreadful: this striking-but-depressing photograph of a fish trapped inside a jellyfish.

Just look at the fish's stricken expression and try not to feel miserable about its strange fate:

The moment was captured by Byron Bay photographer Tim Samuel, who first uploaded it to his Instagram account in December 2015.

The photo went viral this month after Samuel posted it to Reddit (on the forum "Mildly Interesting" —suggesting that his "mildly interesting" threshold is maybe different to everyone else's).

"He was trapped in there, but controlled where the jellyfish was moving," Samuel wrote.

"It is crazy how much attention this little guy is getting," said Samuel when he reuploaded the photo to Instagram this week.

"We knew we had found something special, but had no idea just how unique and rare this sighting was. I'm completely blown away by all the attention it is getting from all over the world."

Let's all just pretend that fish is still cruising around happily in its little jellyfish submarine, and wasn't, you know, slowly and painfully digested until it died an excruciating death.
