Dog re-elected town mayor in landslide victory

Local elections are usually the most boring ones, but not in the small Minnesota town whose residents have just voted a dog to be their mayor for the third year in a row.

The nine-year-old Great Pyrenees was elected mayor of Cormorant in a landslide victory on Saturday, reports WDAY News.

Duke's owner David Rick said his enormous ball of fur was first elected in 2014 "by accident", thanks to write-in votes. That election was also won by a landslide — although only 12 people voted, so the term "landslide" is all relative.

The win did not surprise residents of Cormorant, which is home to about 1000 people.

"I don't know who would run against him, because he's done such great things for the community," said local woman Karen Nelson.

Duke is paid in dog food in lieu of a salary. Good boy.
