Doctor Doctor renewed for Season 5

Nine has announced its hit Aussie drama series Doctor Doctor has been renewed for a fifth season.

"We are thrilled to commission a fifth season of Australia's favourite drama series Doctor Doctor," Andy Ryan, Nine's co-head of drama said. "With its stellar cast and beautiful rural setting, viewers of all ages have fallen in love with the misadventures of Dr Hugh Knight and his marvellously dysfunctional family. We are really proud to be able to support the creative team behind Doctor Doctor for another season."

Doctor Doctor stars Rodger Corser as a bad boy heart surgeon who was forced to serve probation as a GP in his hometown of Whyhope.

The news comes amid a difficult time for the Australian TV industry, with many productions unable to film due to social-distancing restrictions put in place because of coronavirus.

The Doctor Doctor cast took to social media to celebrate the announcement.

"We can't wait to bring you a little laughter, fun and romance for a fifth time... just as soon as we're allowed out of the house," Rodger joked.

Chloe Bayliss, who plays Hayley on Doctor Doctor, also shared the good news.

The first half of Doctor Doctor Season 4, along with previous seasons, is currently available for viewing on 9Now. New episodes will return on April 22.

Production dates for Season 5 will be confirmed as soon as possible.
