One of Europe’s tallest buildings set for tiny town in Denmark

The Shard in London will soon lose its title as western Europe’s tallest building to a surprising newcomer.

Danish fast-fashion giant Bestseller is set to build its 320-metre tall headquarters in Brande, a rural town of 7000 people in Denmark’s west.

The Bestseller Tower, designed by architectural studio Dorte Mandrup, will stand 10 metres taller than the Shard.

Project manager Anders Krogh said construction is still a long way off.

“The city council’s approval is obviously essential, but we still have a lot of homework to do and much to consider before a project like this can be brought to life. We still have years ahead of us before a potential start date,” he said.

Danish billionaire Anders Holch Povlsen is the sole owner of Bestseller, an international clothing chain boasting popular fashion brands Vero Moda and Jack&Jones, which are both sold in Australian department store Myer.

Last year, Bestseller launched a “climate positive” sustainability strategy, with a focus on investing in low-impact materials.
