A woman has been treated for facial injuries after trying to ride her bike on a rising drawbridge in the US.

The 37-year-old was filmed on security camera weaving around the lowered boom gates and ignoring the flashing warning lights as the Racine Street Bridge in Menasha was raised.

The footage, which has gone viral since being shared by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation this week, appears to show the woman attempting to pedal up the slope to cross to the other side.

Bystanders rushed to the woman’s aid, lifting her and her bike out of the gap.

As we read in a yarn from Wisconsin’s ABC 2, the incident happened on July 4 – a national holiday for the US.

The local news service reported the mishap occurred right after the fireworks in Menasha.

According to a later report, bystanders alerted the bridge operator, who kept the bridge raised until the woman and her bike were well clear of the gap.
