Zac Efron and Russell Crowe to star in film adaptation of memoir The Greatest Beer Run Ever

Zac Efron and Russell Crowe are in talks to star in a film adaptation of the book The Greatest Beer Run Ever: A Memoir Of Friendship, Loyalty, And War.

Deadline reports Apple Studios is expected to finance the project and is chasing Bill Murray for a supporting role.

Peter Farrelly, whose film Green Book won Best Picture at the Oscars two years ago, is slated to direct the movie.

The book follows John 'Chick' Donohue who left New York in 1967 to take beer to his childhood friends, who are serving as US troops in the Vietnam war. Efron is slated to play Donohue in the movie.

The outlet suggested the production could kick off in August, in either New Zealand or Australia amid widely-publicised reports Efron has taken up residency Down Under.

He met his current girlfriend Vanessa Valladares after meeting at Byron Bay General Store in June. Efron appears to have no intentions of moving back to the states after deciding to put his LA home on the market.

"As of now, he has no plans to live permanently in L.A. again," a source previously told People. "He loves Australia and considers it his home."

Efron is currently shooting the second season of the TV show Down to Earth for Netflix. Crowe most recently starred in the movie, Unhinged.
